The Beauty of Aging

The beauty of aging is that when you are genuinely reflective, you can see the thread of your life that leads to your current situation. Every choice you make or not is a decision that affects not only your life but also the lives of those you influence (consciously or unconsciously). When you are a child, you have no control over your existence. You depend on your parent(s) and their prior knowledge of education, healthcare, nutrition, money, careers, politics, religion, marriage, etc. You take that information throughout your formative years into adulthood and wonder how you got here.

Well, it is time that allows us to become reflective as we age. We take that knowledge from our parent(s) and add our personal insecurities and our historical and family trauma to it and integrate it into how we live today. If we are reflective, we become more inward to find our truth and set boundaries to live our authentic life.

What I have learned is that I need more from myself. I need to “see” myself and my role in every relationship. I believe that every relationship (one on one or as a part of a greater community) is an opportunity for me to get to know myself better and to understand others. Listening, effective communication, understanding yourself, and follow-through are keys to a successful life.

In The Daily Kitchen, random thoughts, ideas, recipes, discussions on family, community, and personal development, and fun anecdotes will be posted on this page. I hope you will join me in this adventure of self-discovery.
